Arriving at The Regency Ballroom, a long line of fans was bundled with excitement to see singer-songwriter Malcolm Todd. Many were draped with merchandise from Malcolm Todd’s previous tour, “Sweet Boy Tour.” Walking into the venue, I noticed the extremely lengthy line for merchandise wrapped around the inside walls. Merch sold at the booth ranged from T-shirts and hoodies to more unique items, including a chain with a guitar.
Singer-songwriter Malcolm Todd took the stage at around 9:10 p.m., coming out of complete darkness, adding anticipation to his set. His band members walked out one after another, with the crowd getting louder after each appearance. While the crowd was at its loudest, Todd started his set off with “Harry Styles” from his new album Malcolm Todd. On the third song of the setlist, “Bleed,” featuring Omar Apollo, was performed, and the venue erupted. The crowd was roaring, singing along, with deep red lights pulsing onto Malcolm Todd.
Malcolm Todd is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter, famously known for his songs “Chest Pain (I Love)” and “Roommates,” that blew up on TikTok. He announced his tour shortly after releasing his first studio album, Malcolm Todd, in 2025.
In 2024, Malcolm Todd did his “Sweet Boy Tour.” At his San Francisco stop, he performed two nights at The Independent, a venue fit for 500 people. Due to his massive growth throughout the year, Malcolm Todd finds himself at The Regency Ballroom, allowing up to 2,300 fans to enjoy his show each night.
Todd’s set was fantastic, with his name on the back of the stage in big bold letters, and incredibly unique lighting that synchronized with the songs he performed. He had platforms on the main stage for each of his band members. The drum set read “Boys who cry” with a heart in place for the “O” in the message, fitting the month of Men’s Mental Health Awareness.
Ending the show, Todd performed his hit song, “Chest Pain (I Love),” which has over 141 million streams on Spotify. Todd finishes performing the song and acted as if the show had ended. The crowd screams, “ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG!” and Todd delivered, coming out with his band once again to perform his final songs. He begins with “I’ll Come Back For You” and follows that performance by singing “Roommates.” The lighting towards the end of the show was rapid flashes, synchronizing with the beat of the song. Todd ends his performance with lots of movement across the stage, jumping around with his guitar in his hand.
Sophie Gray is the opener for Malcolm Todd’s show. She had one of the most engaging and energy-surging DJ sets I’ve seen live. She came on around 8:00 p.m. and included songs by Ice Spice, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and other notable artists in her set, creating a loud and energetic opener. Her transitions were flawless, and her song choice never failed to hype up the crowd. She ended her set with “Location” by Playboi Carti and left the entire venue amped up for Malcolm Todd’s set.
