Alice Phoebe Lou’s latest release “The Surface”

Globally adored singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou has a sound characterized by dreamlike, labyrinthine chords that trace the listener right back to Lou’s fondest emotions and memories. Alice is embarking on a journey of unveiling unreleased singles which she originally never thought would never see the light of day. Lou is leaning into imperfection and playfulness as she learns to embrace the power of vulnerability. “The Surface” is her latest release, which evokes the imagery of a heart in full display, inviting the listener to love openly – to let love in.

The Surface’ is a stream of conscious love song about the deep and contradictory feelings that rise up when exploring a connection with someone you feel strongly about,” Alice articulated. “It goes through the many phases of holding back and then giving in, starting at the end when someone is finally all in. It talks of the hardships that one has gone through in order to arrive at a place where there is promise of a future and a deep connection and trust. It’s the melting away of our hard outer shells to reach the softer place beneath where we let go and allow ourselves to love and be loved. With just voice and guitar, the music is stripped down and bare like the song.”

The sweet folk ballad soars with melodies while being accompanied by the acoustic guitar – the simplicity of this single juxtaposes the complexity of emotion being expressed by Alice. ” The Surface” embodies simplicity, and her feelings are bare as she expresses all that it takes to arrive at a place of hope while building a future with someone else. Lou’s songwriting reflects her openness and newfound radiance through her most recent singles – “You and I” being another acoustic ballad recently released by her on April 11, 2024
