Michigan rock band Pop Evil is set to surprise fans with a fresh take on Simple Minds’ iconic ’80s anthem “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” This reimagined version, performed during their “unleaded” set at a special album release event with SiriusXM Octane, showcases a more minimalist approach and marks an exciting milestone as it’s the first time Pop Evil has released a cover commercially in their career.
Frontman Leigh Kakaty shares the emotional connection many have with this song: “There is such a special story connected to this piece for so many people worldwide. What started off meaningful as one thing, when young, now carries a much deeper weight. It’s tied to an entire lifetime of choices, experiences, and moments. We are shining a light on a new way of discovering these lyrics and asking the deepest of questions. A question we all ask: ‘Will we be remembered?’”
This cover will be part of their upcoming EP, Unleaded, which features an acoustic, live twist on their music that diverges from their traditional sound. Unleaded promises to unveil a profound and nuanced side of the band, swapping out their hefty distortion and energetic fury for a more reflective atmosphere that is guaranteed to give listeners chills.
The intimate tracks, recorded at an exclusive show in the heart of New York City, celebrate the raw essence of Pop Evil’s songwriting. The EP not only features the newly imagined version of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” but also includes an “Unleaded Version” of their chart-topping hit “What Remains,” which is currently making waves in the Top 10 at rock radio.
In partnership with SiriusXM Octane, the show took place in the edgy, denim-clad Cult of Individuality showroom, creating a unique ambiance that allowed the band to strip away their high-energy signature sound and connect deeply with their audience.
Renowned for their explosive shows and anthems that resonate in stadiums, Pop Evil continues to be a driving force in the hard rock scene.
