On May 27, billie played her very first show in Paris, and it was a sold-out night at La Maroquinerie. The venue was packed, the energy was high, and the excitement in the room was impossible to ignore. Vulnerable, loud, and full of emotion, billie gave us so much more than just a concert. She offered a glimpse into her world, a space where heartbreak meets freedom and softness lives alongside noise. I was lucky enough to be there, and it’s a night I won’t forget.
billie’s music is a blend of many things—rock, tender lyrics, punk rock, and dream pop. She doesn’t let labels define her, she wants to be free. Her first EP, j’avance, dropped only a few months ago on streaming platforms, and she’s already selling out iconic venues like La Maroquinerie. It’s clear she’s going to go far. These five songs, created between the U.K. and France, capture billie’s musical identity: raw, real, and free.
The night opened with Thx4crying, an artist I’ve been following for a while, so seeing them on the lineup was a lovely surprise. Dreamy sounds mixed with heavy emotions, Thx4crying took us on a rollercoaster of feelings, and it was beautiful.
As their name suggests, Thx4crying wants us to cry. Their set was full of sad, heart-wrenching tracks that pulled the crowd deep into emotion. But beneath those sorrowful lyrics was also a hyperpop energy—something that made us want to dance through the sadness.
They grabbed the mic to share that their first album, Thx4crying, came out in March, and most of the songs we heard tonight were from that project.
They closed their set with a deeply emotional track, “Alors je descends plus bas.” They explained, “It’s a song where I didn’t put just one breakup, but every kind—friendship, romantic, and even musical breakups.” It was as sad as expected, but as the track went on, a hyperpop beat and pulsing bass kicked in, and the crowd started dancing despite the heavy subject matter.
The audience wasn’t made up of just young fans—there was a real mix of people from all walks of life, which made the atmosphere even more special.
billie was running a little late, so fans began chanting her name. Coincidence or not, it worked—her band came on stage, and seconds later, billie appeared.
After a few songs, she paused to thank everyone for being there, saying this moment had been a lifelong dream. It was also her very first time playing in Paris. Since she only has five songs officially released, she naturally performed them all—but she also told us a big part of the set would feature unreleased tracks. We were lucky to hear them before anyone else.
At one point, she shared how difficult it is for her to talk about her songs since they’re so personal. She prefers to leave their meaning open to interpretation. Still, with emotion in her voice, she told us the next track was about loss and grief and dedicated it to someone in the crowd.
It was one of the most emotional moments of the night. I saw a few people crying, and billie did too. Fans lit lighters, and the room glowed with this soft, collective heartbreak.
She received a huge round of applause.
The crowd broke into several mosh pits throughout the night, each one more chaotic and joyful than the last, but one of the most unforgettable moments came during her explosive cover of “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads. As soon as the first notes hit, the energy in the room shifted, fans screamed, jumped, and rushed toward the center, turning the floor into a whirlwind of movement. billie’s voice – raw and electric – gave the classic track a new edge, and the entire venue seemed to pulse with adrenaline.
Later in the set, billie took time to talk about her family and friends, and how important it is to be surrounded by people who make you feel safe and loved. She also thanked her lover for supporting her through the EP-making process and for sharing her life.
After introducing her band—Lou and Vera on guitar, and Amelie on drums—she left the stage. But the crowd wasn’t ready to let go. Chants of “billie! billie! billie!” and “encore! encore!” filled the room.
And of course, she came back. This time with a bass guitar. She admitted she wasn’t the best at it, but honestly, it was amazing. The band even took turns with little solos that made the encore feel extra special.
Before wrapping up, billie took a final moment to thank everyone involved in her team. Then she closed the night with her hit “ami imaginaire,” but this time, it was acoustic. She invited the crowd to sing with her, stepping into the audience to see their faces up close. It was a beautiful moment of connection that ended the night perfectly.
This night felt like more than just a concert. It was an introduction to billie’s world—unfiltered, vulnerable, and loud in all the right ways. From the first notes to the final goodbye, there was a sense that we were witnessing something special, something just beginning. If this was her first show in Paris, I can only imagine what’s coming next.
