Austin-based band Farmer’s Wife are pushing forward the shoegaze revival with a brand-new EP, Faint Illusions
Following in the footsteps of 2023 EP There’s a Monster and 2024 singles “Boheme” and “Season of the Witch,” the band’s sonic development is palpable, bringing 90’s grunge and psych-rock into the 21st century with a simultaneously heavy and whimsical sound. The band teased this new era with singles “Seethe” and “Mildew,” heightening anticipation for the project. Throughout its five tracks, Faint Illusions goes in a more sludgy, atmospheric direction, still with the dark, visceral storytelling that defines Farmer’s Wife. Singer Molly Masson’s haunting voice blend with eerie rhythms and fuzzy guitars paint a gothic fairytale picture.
Already well-loved in the Austin underground, Farmer’s Wife are capturing the attention of listeners around the U.S., recently wrapping up nationwide tours with noted alt-rock contemporaries such as Destroy Boys and Boston Manor.
