Described by frontman Marcus King as a deeply personal anthem, “Honky Tonk Hell” explores the complexities of addiction and the ongoing struggle with sobriety.
“‘Honky Tonk Hell’ is an anthem for anyone out there like myself who have struggled with the permanence of sobriety – those who fear the thought they will never again howl at the moon,” King shares. “This song for me serves as a reminder to take it all one day at a time.”
The release of “Honky Tonk Hell” sets the tone for what promises to be a compelling new chapter in The Marcus King Band’s musical journey

In addition to the Family Reunion festival, Marcus King will spend the summer on the road as part of major national tours with Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson, and Eric Church. He is also set to perform at CMA Fest in Nashville on June 6.
Marcus grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, but these days he calls Nashville home. He got an early start in music, hopping on stage with his dad—a blues guitarist—when he was just eight. His big break came in 2020 with his solo debut El Dorado, produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
The album got a ton of praise, with the Associated Press calling it “a definite high point of 2020.” El Dorado also scored Marcus a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Americana Album, a huge moment in his journey.
After the success of El Dorado, Marcus came back in 2022 with his second album, Young Blood, teaming up with Dan Auerbach once more as producer. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums Chart, and critics loved it, calling it a “staggeringly confident work.”
After El Dorado, Marcus King kept the momentum going with Young Blood in 2022, his second album produced by Dan Auerbach. It shot to #1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums Chart and was praised as a “staggeringly confident work.”
In 2023, King took things in a more personal direction with Mood Swings, teaming up with legendary producer Rick Rubin. The album showed a more vulnerable side of King, with Rolling Stone calling it “daring, vulnerable, and openhearted.”
