The Brooklyn Monarch doesn’t usually go off this early on a Friday—but tonight was a stacked bill, and the early slot belonged to Wind Walkers. The venue had a second show scheduled later, which meant doors cracked open before most people had finished work for the weekend. As soon as the clock hit 5:01pm, I was out the door leaving behind the spreadsheets and corporate etiquette and within the hour, was standing in a darkened Monarch, daylight still peeking in through windows stage left, shoulder-to-shoulder with amped up strangers.
In the scramble to get inside, I met fans who’d made the same hustle. Some were there just for Wind Walkers, others for Caskets and headliner Memphis May Fire. In fact, all three bands had just played at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio, the day before, driving ten plus hours overnight to make this show. No rest, no reset—just straight into the fire, bringing the same energy to a small club in Brooklyn as they did at the festival grounds. The vibe definitely translated well to the crowd with this feeling less like a show and more like an afterparty to Sonic Temple.
I caught guitarist Timothy Comeau before the set, and yeah, the drive was brutal. But onstage? You’d never know. If anything, the fatigue gave the set an edge—grittier, louder, looser. The Brooklyn Monarch was the perfect pit stop on the way to their hometown gig in Massachusetts the next day, thankfully less than half the drive.
Wind Walkers are locked in right now—burning hard, playing hungry. Their set was slightly shorter than usual (likely due to the venue’s tight schedule), but they left the crowd wanting more. With momentum building fast and a growing fanbase showing up early just for them, Wind Walkers aren’t slowing down anytime soon. For upcoming dates and updates, visit windwalkersofficial.com.
