DEATH CULT ANNOUNCES TWO INTIMATE U.S. SHOWS AHEAD OF CRUEL WORLD FESTIVAL
The pioneering post-punk outfit and precursor to The Cult will perform rare club dates in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
May 2, 2025 – Iconic post-punk band Death Cult has announced two special U.S. club shows this month: May 14 at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco and May 16 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.
These performances are exceptionally rare—Death Cult has played in the U.S. only once before and has made just a handful of appearances in Europe. The shows lead into Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy’s highly anticipated debut at the Cruel World Festival on May 17.

Originally formed in 1981 as Southern Death Cult, the group’s self-titled debut was released posthumously in 1983. Later that year, Astbury and Duffy regrouped as Death Cult, bridging the raw energy of punk with the sweeping, psychedelic rock that would define their future sound. In 1983, Death Cult released two 12-inches, including the Death Cult EP, which were later combined and issued on CD. These recordings remain a crucial artifact of the Shamanic post-punk gothic movement.
In 1984, Death Cult transformed into The Cult, releasing Dreamtime that same year and going on to deliver 11 full-length albums, achieving multiple gold and platinum records around the world.
