The deluxe album follows closely on the heels of her latest single, “The Flood,” which was released on April 4 and received widespread acclaim for its emotional depth. The track marks another striking moment in the What Happened to the Heart? era, a body of work that continues to resonate with audiences across the globe.
What Happened To The Heart? is a bold, introspective album that dives into the emotional disconnect we feel as humans, the healing power of vulnerability, and the transformative impact of recognizing with your true self. The album is inspired by a letter from an Indigenous activist calling on humanity to “heal the land.” Aurora crafted this album as a personal mission to explore the heart as both a symbol and a muscle. A spiritual core that’s been lost in a world dominated by logic and reason.
Created during her 2022 tour for the U.K. Top 10 album, The Gods We Can Touch, this record was shaped in “unsafe spaces” to challenge comfort and unlock raw emotional honesty. Blending haunting Nordic ballads with pulsating electronic anthems, the album features collaborations with Ane Brun, Tom Rowlands (The Chemical Brothers), Chris Greatti (Yungblud, Blink-182, Pussy Riot), Matias Tellez (girl in red, Maisie Peters), Dave Hamelin (Beyoncé, King Princess, Zara Larsson), and AURORA’s longtime creative partner Magnus Skylstad.
AURORA explains:
“When we find ourselves at a crossroad. There are many things that weigh in on what choice we’re about to make.
I think this is wise. And I think this is good.
As long as it’s not fear.
And as long as you don’t overthink your emotions and turn them into small logical robots in your brain. We’re allowed to feel. And to want.”

The album’s release has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response, highlighted by BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record “Some Type of Skin” and standout singles like “Your Blood” and “The Conflict Of The Mind.” These tracks have collected millions of streams and widespread critical praise.
AURORA has also recently found herself at the center of pop culture conversation thanks to the powerful use of her 2016 song “Through the Eyes of a Child” in the emotional final episode of Netflix’s global hit series “Adolescence.” The track plays during the climactic closing scene, as the father character comes to a devastating realization and breaks down in tears. As if the show weren’t impactful enough, the haunting ballad added an even deeper level of emotion, leaving a lasting impression on viewers around the world.
The song, originally featured on her debut album All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend, has experienced a significant resurgence, re-entering the charts and introducing AURORA to a whole new generation of listeners.
And there’s more to celebrate: the anniversary of her unforgettable song “Runaway” is approaching, and AURORA has plenty planned for the occasion. As part of the epic 10th anniversary celebrations, she’s unveiling a never-before-seen, high-definition, full-screen edition of the iconic “Runaway” music video on May 7 at 3 p.m. BST. More info, additional surprises, and exclusive merch are available on her website.
Meanwhile, she continues to bring her magic to the stage. After sold-out tours in North, Central, and South America, Australia, and Asia, AURORA is currently on tour across the U.K. and EU. Tickets for the last few shows are available HERE.
