Amelia Moore Talks Upcoming EP “he’s still just not that into you!”

Alt-R&B sensation Amelia Moore is gearing up for a breakout. The Georgia-born singer-songwriter dropped out of college to pursue her music career, and has been finding her footing with unique blend of catchy indie pop and smooth R&B.

Just prior to the pandemic, Moore left behind her conservative southern upbringing for Los Angeles, where she worked tirelessly to find her sound and grow her following on social media. Even after being dropped from her first major deal with Capitol Records, Moore’s close friends and dedicated audience kept her creatively inspired and on the track to success. The music industry can be unforgiving, but Moore quickly learned to not take rejection personally and to have faith in her own style and creative vision.

She has a few hits under her belt already, gaining recognition on TikTok for “see through” and “next door,” the latter featuring her longtime friend ASTN. Moore’s virality also caught the attention of high-profile producers such as Timbaland, their collaboration propelling her career to new heights.

Moore hit another milestone with her major festival debut last year at Camp Flog Gnaw, sharing the stage with iconic artists such as Blood Orange, Erykah Badu and Tyler, The Creator. “Flog Gnaw was a really important opportunity to show everybody, in a short amount of time, who I am,” Moore said. “I wanted to pack as much energy in that thirty minutes as possible.” The festival was a chance to showcase a new level of production and performance that she’ll hopefully bring to future headlining shows.

Recently signing a fresh record deal with Republic Records, Amelia Moore’s upcoming EP, “he’s still just not that into you!,” promises to be her most boldly genre-bending and emotionally vulnerable work yet. A follow-up to 2024’s “he’s just not that into you!,” Moore aims to build on the inspiration of her previous work while bringing new sounds and surprises to fans. Single “fuck, marry, kill” is a chaotic mix of feelings— love, lust, anger, regret— over a flowing, relaxed beat. “The production is so timeless and classic sounding and the lyrics are so modern and specific,” Moore said. “I think we just wanted to lean into that while writing it and not take ourselves too seriously.” Moore released a dramatic visualizer to accompany the song, paying homage to her instantly-recognizable bright orange hair, because no true pop star is complete without an iconic hairstyle.

A casual, unrestrained attitude towards songwriting seems to work well for Moore, who lets her creativity flow freely and draws ideas anywhere from the depths of her heart, to melodies hummed in the shower, to drama-filled TV shows like “Sex and the City.” Her sonic and visual influences also comes from an amalgamation of sources, Moore citing Charli XCX, Doechii, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra as acts that have inspired her recently.

That isn’t to say her music isn’t intentional and polished; the mixtape’s songs have gone through many iterations, perfecting ideas she’d been mulling over for a long time. One of the most anticipated songs on the project is “spelling bee” featuring Teezo Touchdown. It was an exciting moment for Moore as she co-wrote the song with Julia Michaels, one of her biggest musical inspirations. The feature is icing on the cake, as Teezo Touchdown has made waves in the alternative hip-hop scene in recent years. “I’ve been a fan of Teezo for so long and it’s a dream come true to have him on a song with me,” said Moore.

Moore is celebrating the project’s release with a special event at Brain Dead Studios in LA, where lucky fans will get an exclusive first listen of the mixtape and a screening of “He’s Just Not That into You,” the rom-com film that inspired its name. “he’s still just not that into you!” releases May 9: catch Amelia Moore live at release shows in New York City, LA, Amsterdam, Berlin, and London.
