It was a Monday—the kind of night you wouldn’t expect a club to be so busy. Well, put Seraina Telli and Visions of Atlantis on the same bill, and it will fill the place. The local band Spell Breaker helped bring in a good crowd, and they all stayed to listen to the headliner. Everyone was a pirate for the night, many dressed to the nines, and it added to the feel of the night.
Seraina Telli is a Swiss singer and songwriter who can play multiply instruments. She was the vocalist of Rizon from 2010 to 2014, the vocalist of Surrillum from 2011 to 2017, and then Burning Witches from 2015 to 2019. In 2019 she went on to form her own band, Dead Venus, and she has since created a very dynamic solo career. She has multiple albums out across different genres, and her individual style has been dubbed “In Your Face Rock” due to her aggressively expressive voice and lyrics.
Most of her songs she performed were off her two solo albums, Simple Talk and Addicted to Color. She opened with “Addicted to Color,” followed by “Wish You Well.” It was just Telli and her drummer on stage, and they owned it for about 45 minutes. She connected with the crowd and even led a singalong at the end. I thoroughly enjoyed her performance and want to look for more of her work—be it from one of her bands she has been part of, her own band, or her solo work.

Visions of Atlantis, a pirate themed symphonic metal band from Austria, bolted on stage next. Think Nightwish meets pirate outfits and seafaring metal music, on a search for Atlantis. Fascinated by the myth of Atlantis, Werner Fiedler, Thomas Caser, Christian Stani, and Chris Kamper decided in August 2000 to work out a concept inspired by the secret of Atlantis. They added a soprano lead singer to evoke the feeling of a surreal fantasy to their vocal mix. The current female lead singer is Clémentine Delauney. While the band has cycled through several members over the years, with some coming back, the one constant in the band has been drummer Thomas Caser, one of the original visionaries of the Visions of Atlantis.
The music is laid out to tell a story of a great journey in search of the magical Atlantis. From their opening number “To Those Who Choose to Fight” and songs like “The Land of the Free,” their set encounters trouble along the way with the song “Monsters.” They survive this battle in their journey, coming across more hardship, yet can find time to celebrate their conquests and dream of the new land. They end with the song “Armada,” the title track from their 2024 released Pirate II – Armada album.
If you have never heard of this group, it is best if you look them up. If they are performing in your city, buy tickets—it is not just a concert it is a story being told of an adventure.
