Last Night Saved My Life is a five-piece band from Michigan. Over the years, they’ve dropped several EPs and singles, but it’s been a minute since any new music had been released. Just this past Friday they released their first full length LP, titled “The First Hello,” which was co-produced by Derek DiScanio of State Champs and Kyle Black.
Side note: Derek DiScanio is the reason I even discovered this band about six years ago when he was featured in “Waterfall,” which currently remains their top track. It’s so fun to see ties between bands, which always make me wonder: how did I not find them sooner? Especially when the bands work so closely to each other, have similar sounds and inspirations behind their music.
Now, back to the LP. With a title like “The First Hello,” and having dropped this LP about three years after their last EP, it tells me that this is almost a re-introduction to the music industry for the first time to new listeners, but hopefully not the last time for anyone. It features a total of nine tracks, with the first one, “Blink,” being the focus on its overall message. Vocalist Wilson says “Blink” is about remembering to live your life to the fullest and to not just waltz through the days as mundane as some may seem. Wake up and celebrate each day.
My favorite line is, “Better wake me up when I blink,” because that just screams at me. Blink too fast and you just see events flash — you got to keep your eyes open or you might miss something important. As a concert photographer, I get FOMO when I feel like I might miss a shot because I’m on the other side of the stage, when in fact, I’m missing the photo opportunity that is right in front of me. All because I’m focused on something else somewhere else. Focus on the here and now, enjoy the moments before they pass.
Honestly, who doesn’t feel like the days just fly by? I mean we’re already through APRIL. Where has the time gone? I know I can always use a reminder to stop letting time pass me by, especially when life gets me down. But I don’t think I need to tell any of you about FOMO. Don’t get the FOMO and check out this new LP by Last Night Saved My Life, available on all streaming platforms now!
I really hope that the release of this new music means an incoming tour, because I don’t know about you, but it took me nearly four years to see them live and I definitely need them to come back to my area. How about we drop that info for us? Please? I need to hear these tracks live so I scream along at the top of my lungs. Maybe pair up with State Champs too? That’d be a dream.
Here’s to “The First Hello” — and hopefully many more ?
