On April 19, 2025, Whitechapel formed at The Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia, with the guest Brand of Sacrifice, 200 Stab Wounds, and Alluvial. I have never seen any of these bands live, but I’ve been a fan of Whitechapel for over 15 years. I left the show craving more. Each band was full of energy from the circle pit, crowd surfers, and plenty of moshing. The whole venue was raging all night. It only escalated when Phil put on the mask.
Whitechapel, bred in Knoxville, Tennessee, has been known for its deathcore mayhem since 2006. The band consists of Phil Bozeman (vocals), Ben Savage (guitar) Zack Householder (guitar) Alex Wade (guitar) Gabe Crisp (Bassists), and drummer Ben Harclerode. With nine albums, their recent release of Hymns in Dissonance brings a heavier sound than the previous releases, affirming their spot as titans in the genre. My favorite track is “The Valley,” the lyrics resonated with me on a personal level and cut deep. I was beyond excited to witness Whitechapel’s live performance and experience their audience while they are still at the top of the deathcore scene.
It was such an incredible show for the final sold-out stop— such a great way to end the tour, with a monumental setlist. The crowd consisted of couples, friends, and even a few children. The guest bands brought the energy up with each song. Nothing is like Whitechapel, with their lyrics often exploring dark themes and personal struggles, which many fans find relatable. The band’s involved sound has helped attract a loyal fan base. Their energetic performances and a strong following in the metal community has helped contribute to their lasting popularity for over a decade. Overall, Whitechapel’s combination of musical talent, relatable themes, and engaging performances makes them stand out in the metal scene.
