Fresh off the massive “Seal 30th Anniversary World Tour,” the dynamic Americana power duo Dauzat St. Marie, featuring backing vocalist Heather St. Marie and guitarist-backing vocalist Mat Dauzat, is back in action! This time, they’re taking a dark Southern Soul Americana approach to Seal’s iconic 1991 hit, “Crazy.”
In a nod to their storied musical journey, the duo surprises us in the bridge with a sudden turn that nods to Black Sabbath’s legendary “War Pigs.” (Fun fact: Mat also rocks the guitar for Kelly Osbourne, the daughter of the Prince of Darkness himself, and together they share two decades of musical history with the Osbourne family!) The adventure began when Seal stumbled upon Mat’s YouTube performances and reached out via FaceTime. Seal invited Mat to join his band as a guitarist and backing vocalist for the anniversary tour and, soon after, Heather joined the mix.
As the world tour kicked off, fans were treated to stunning TV performances of Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose” on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and “Good Morning America.” The tour band featured none other than famed producer Trevor Horn on bass and as musical director. Plus, they had the legendary new wave band The Buggles opening the show—the minds behind the very first music video ever aired on television! (“Video Killed the Radio Star.”) Trevor, recognizing Mat’s talents from those YouTube gems, recruited him to bring his magic to The Buggles as well. In a twist, during the U.K. leg of the tour, Seal invited Heather to join the band as a backing vocalist. It marked a milestone as it was the first time the couple was in a band together that wasn’t their own! Following the tour’s grand finale, Dauzat St. Marie hit the road once more, embarking on a U.S. arena tour with rock legends REO Speedwagon and Rick Springfield. They headed straight to their Los Angeles studio and recorded their version of Seal’s “Crazy,” which is now available across all streaming platforms. Check it out, especially if you want to hear a funky, moody twist!
