The Linda Lindas are a four-piece girl band that I had only heard of over the past couple years. Over these years, this group has slowly been climbing the music world from playing Riot Fest 2022 and opening for Green Day just last year. I am very honored to have made the shortlist of approvals for a photo pass at their Chicago show because it was a full house in that pit. There were at least ten of us and by no means was it enough space. I had not seen a photo pit that full in a hot minute, but seeing that many other creatives coming out to support the tour has got to be a good feeling for the band—especially since this show was originally set to be at Bottom Lounge, but due to a demand for tickets, that venue sold out and it was upgraded to Metro Chicago.
First up to open this night was Adan Diaz. I had no idea who he was, but a quick google search informed me that he was a local artist. Big win for the local music scene. I love it when bands pull from the smaller artists to provide them opportunities because everyone started small somewhere. He is a Mexican-American singer, songwriter and producer. Triple threat, whoo! That’s super impressive, and I admire the artists that do it all like that. His music was fun and catchy—not normally my personal vibe, but the crowd was there for it.
After his set, Pinkshift came out. I had just caught their Milwaukee set a few days ago and I’m no stranger to this band. This show marked my fifth(?) time seeing them—it might have been my fourth, I don’t remember. Before they started their music, their vocalist, Ashrita, gave a speech defending our rights and everyone cheered. Whoever said politics doesn’t belong with music needs to clean their ears out. Music is about expression, and sometimes it gets it seen better than just talking. Anyways, Pinkshift got that mosh pit warmed up and it was a big one. My favorite song by this band is named “Burn The Witch” and it’s a bop. Give it a listen.
Finally, it was time for the main act, The Linda Lindas. Each of them came out full of energy and hopped around the stage. The crowd was singing along to all the words as the graphics on the background screen changed rapidly with the lights. They were so full of energy, smiles, and it really showed. I left a little too early to check out merch and catch a bus since it had been a long day, but apparently The Linda Lindas brought Pinkshift and Adan Diaz on stage for a grand finale. In this Instagram story video I saw, it was a party on stage. I wish I hadn’t left so quickly—oh well!
Do check out the band’s merch and buy some if you can. They all have some really cool stuff! I got a watch from The Linda Lindas and it’s definitely one of the most unique pieces of band merch I’ve ever seen before. I am also surprised it even fits me. I have tiny wrists! It’s cool. Don’t forget to look at the merchandise!
There’s a few days left of the “No Obligations” tour, so get a ticket if they’re coming near you. Don’t miss out on a wild night of music!
