A blues soul & rock energy: Liam St. John electrifies Ann Arbor (show review)

On March 21, 2025, Liam St. John took the stage at the historic Blind Pig, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This was one of many stops on “The Dirty Sun Tour” featuring headliner ZZ Ward and Liam St. John as the opening performer. It was a packed house before the show even began, and everyone in the audience was alive with energy and full of anticipation.

Soon it was showtime, and Liam took the stage with his shiny acoustic guitar in hand. To each of his sides stood his guitarist Christian Starrett and cellist Luca Chiappara. The first song on the set was “Everloving Eloise,” a cello-heavy track off of his album All The Bad Things (Stripped Back).

The crowd was entranced by this deep and vulnerable performance, even from the very start. Liam went on to play many of his fan favorites, all while interacting and checking in on his audience between almost every song! The stories he would share, and brief glimpses into his life before each track, made for such a touching and unforgettable performance.

Along with his many hits, Liam also performed an electrifying cover of “Toxic” by Britney Spears. Cheers roared from the crowd as he turned this iconic pop track into a beautiful blues masterpiece. The stripped back instrumentals met with Liam’s gravitational voice allowed for him to create a whole new sound and emotional impact.

Liam also performed his highly anticipated track “Greyhound Bus Blues,” featuring the Grammy Award-winning Molly Tuttle. Announced just this month, the song is set for release on April 11.

To close out his set, the last track that Liam performed was “Dipped In Bleach,” a song off of his 2021 EP Believer. Bringing the crowd back to the start, this track delivers a deeply personal story of emotional resilience and growth. The energy never once wavered throughout the night—the room was just as roaring and full of life when Liam thanked everyone for coming and exited the stage for the night.
