From the Tides: Bringing metalcore to mental health

Dallas-based metal core band From the Tides prepares for their upcoming tour alongside With Hope Intact and for their new cover song, “Hollywood’s Bleeding” by Post Malone. I had the pleasure of sitting down with the band to ask them a few questions about themselves, and what they envision for the band in the future.

From the Tides has been a band for about three years and have played shows all over the DFW Metroplex. Like many bands, they strive to be the best they can be. For me, what really makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd, is their distinctive style, their creativity in writing lyrics, and, as guitarist Corey says, “Cooool riffs,” meshed their willingness to connect with their fans no matter who the person is.

We walked around Downtown Fort Worth, snapping shots and discussing music. A group of people saw us taking photos and asked to take a photo with vocalist and bassist Alex. It was a really awesome moment to experience him being so humble and kind, talking to them about the band and where to come see them live.

I asked each individual member what is important to them as an artist:

Alex: Taco Bell (yes, he’s serious)

Rob: Connecting with people

Dylan: Proffenciency

Corey: Outlet for creativity and cooool riffs

When asked collectively about what matters most as artists, the band stated, “Our songs have helped many people get through rough times, and just having that connection with them, letting their voices be heard, that is what is most important to us.

This is so incredibly important in the music industry—helping people cope or overcome hardships through sound and lyrics. From The Tides is a showcase of artists who authentically articulate experiences of mental health and resilience through their music. “We have people come up to us after every show to thank us for helping them get through something,” the band states. I can always appreciate an artist who goes above and beyond to help others.

Discussing future projects, the band shared:

“Our upcoming release will be cover of Post Malone’s Hollywood Bleeding, which we are hoping to be sharing with you on March 25th.” They sent me the cover to listen to the track, and I can assure you, it’s worth listening to.

From the Tides will be on tour with With Hope Intact from April 9-13, kicking things off with a party and show on March 29 at The Haltom Theatre.

Lastly, I asked the guys what they have to look forward to in the future:

“New material.”

“Evolving each time we write a new song.”

“Growing their audience throughout Texas and other states.”

“Playing bigger shows and making new friends.”

Don’t forget to check out these incredible artists on Spotify or catch them at Havoc! at the Haltom Theatre on March 29th.
