Friedberg’s Paris debut: A night to remember

On Saturday March 15, Friedberg stepped onto the stage in Paris for the first time at the famed venue “La Boule Noire” near Pigalle. The 200-capacity venue was packed with French fans, as well as people from all over Europe who traveled for the occasion.

Friedberg is a badass all-female band led by Austrian singer, guitarist, and master of cowbells Anna Friedberg. The band was formed in 2019 and includes Emily Linden (guitar, vocals), Fifi Dewey (bass, vocals), and Sian Monaghan (drums).

Their music is a mix of post-punk and alt-rock with a hypnotic pop vibe—a perfect combination to dance and scream their lyrics back at them.

The night started with their opener Roma Luca, a French musician.

Previously part of Ottis Cœur, she delivers sharp, precise lyrics wrapped in a raw, dynamic rock sound—playing with contrasts, breaks, and unexpected turns. She played multiple songs from her upcoming EP, Invisible Figure, out on March 28, opening her set with “Invisible figure” and ended with “sleep paralysis,” both singles already available on streaming platforms.

Accompanied by only an acoustic guitar and vocals that soared through her heartfelt songs with reflection, she set a beautiful warm vibe in the venue right before Friedberg took the stage.

At 9pm, the band kicked off their set with “my best friend’ the second single of their debut album, Hardcore Workout Queen, released in late 2024.

They followed with “Better than we Are” from the same album and “Yeah,” their third most listened song in Spotify from their first EP yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.

Then, the lead singer, Anna Friedberg took the mic to talk to her audience, specifying this was their first performance in Paris, and how excited they were to finally play here. She even started speaking in french a bit, as well as the guitarist Emily Linden, which made the public go wild.

They continued the night with songs from their debut album and earlier songs such as “Venice 142,” “100 times,” and even “The greatest.”

The energy throughout most of the night was electric, with fans going wild, dancing, and screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs. A little break happened mid-show, with the song “Your Hollywood” from their first EP, which set a warm, emotional vibe in the room. This sentimental pause was well received and was perfectly embedded in their setlist.

They, of course, ended with an encore, including their iconic songs “Hello” and “Midi 8” and the fans went wild, they even started a mosh pit which the lead singer Anna joined for the joy of her fans.

This marked the perfect end to the night, leaving the audience absolutely delighted. Their musicianship is already so unique, hearing them live was a truly wonderful experience.
