If you’re a fan of hardcore music and classic horror movies, you’re in luck—Stray From the Path have kicked off this year with their latest single, “Kubrick Stare,” via their new label, SharpTone Records.
While the track’s title directly references filmmaker legend Stanley Kubrick and his signature cinematic technique, guitarist Tom Williams said that the song also serves as a commentary on today’s hyper-digital society.
“Every day, people on the the Internet see the craziest things they’ve ever seen in their lives,” Williams said. “Sometimes, it’s hard to feel seriously about these atrocities because we see them all day. It’s unfortunately become normal, and it’s driving us crazy. Hence, the ‘Kubrick Stare’ reference — which was a tactic Stanley Kubrick used to show a character losing his mind. We’re locked into our phones, and we probably look like Jack looking out of the window in ‘The Shining.’”
The lyrics definitely reflect this sentiment. As jarring beats and gritty guitar riffs grab your attention, vocalist Drew Dijorio poses the question: “How much can we f***ing bare?”
A new song isn’t the only thing that the New York-based rockers have going for them. The band is set to open for metal powerhouse Spiritbox during their EU/U.K. tour later this month, along with several festival dates later this year.
Stay tuned as Stray From the Path prepares for new music and more in 2025.
