On Wednesday, January 15, the New York Sirens took on the Minnesota Frost at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Both of these teams are familiar with each other having faced off three times already this season, in which the Sirens have won two out of the three matchups.
Paetyn Levis got the Sirens on the board early, with her second goal of the season. The team continued to show great hustle and defense as they held the Frost scoreless through the first period. It was not until the second period when Kendall Coyne Schofield scored her fourth goal of the season, bringing the game to a tie. The score remained 1-1 going into the third period until Mellissa Channell-Watkins put her first goal of the season in the back of the net, assisted by Kendall Coyne Schofield. Things would get interesting as, late in the third period, Sara Fillier finds the back of the net to tie the game; that is her fifth goal of the year, assisted by Abby Roque and Elle Hartje.
At the end of regulation, the game would end in a tie and head to overtime, where both teams displayed lights-out defense and, before we knew it, we were heading to a shootout! Heading into the shootout, Jessie Eldridge was clutch, coming up with two shootout goals, sealing the deal for the Sirens. For the first time in PWHL history, this game went to a seven round shootout.
With this victory, the Sirens move to improve their record to 3-3-1-3 (3rd Place) and the Frost move to 4-3-2-2 (1st Place). The Sirens will have a few days to rest and recover before heading to Scotiabank Arena on January 25, 2025, to take on the Toronto Sceptres.
