The horrifying trip back to the 2000s

Reincarnated from Mushroomhead, Waylon Reavis’ new project A Killer’s Confession performed the perfect time capsule of a set, playing a full hour of each band, with original members of Mushroomhead as well. The tour package consisted of a local opener Vent To Atmosphere, Under Black Sky, LYLVC, and Aaron Nordstrom of Gemini Syndrome being direct support.

Vent To Atmosphere kicked off the night, with their jumpy skull faced bassist. They blend elements of heavy riffs, melodic passages, and intricate time signatures to create a unique listening experience. Their music often explores themes of introspection, existentialism, and the human condition.

Under Black Sky was next, and they brought even more face paint… and a ton more energy and dance moves, especially from their guitar player Max. The New Orleans powerhouse came with a pretty fitting set, ending it with a Linkin Park cover of “One Step Closer,” which got the crowd in the best spot for what’s to come next.

LYLVC (pronounced lilac), the modern double vocalist metal band, brought their A-game during this show. They knew what was on the table and they perfected it. Known for their dynamic fusion of modern metal, hip hop, and electronic elements and singers Alyse and Oscar. Together, their contrasting styles contribute to their distinctive sound. And every other single member seemed to bring the front man attitude.

Gemini Syndrome‘s frontman Aaron Nordstrom was next, performing as the solo act Manakin. While it was more of a gentle set, Aaron took old Gemini songs and gave them a revision, with just a piano. Lyrically, he paints the picture with elegance and deliberation. It was the best fitting moment for a grace period.

Like mentioned, Waylon and his new group was next. The mask and jumpsuit reincarnation of Mushroomhead came next. Equally terrifying as empowering, A killer’s Confession brought a sound no others could match. Fast drums, harsh vocals, and low tuned guitars, Waylon still had room to sing beautifully. Halfway through the show, the band introduced old members of Mushroomhead to perform a separate entire set of nostalgic ingredients for a mosh pit.
