The Rave/Eagles Ballroom was territory for a primal outrage. Oni, Sierra Pilot, Bad Wolves, and Pop Evil all came together to perform a purebred born metal show. The energy in the room was undeniable-fans packed shoulder to shoulder, anticipation buzzing in the air like static before a storm. This wasn’t just a concert; it felt like a shared moment of release, where the music hit like a gut-punch. It was raw, loud, and it was exactly what the fans came for.
Oni started the night, and like every first band. They show the forecast of the night; and, no, they did not disappoint. With three albums on their belt and numerous singles, they had quite the setlist all surrounding your standard modern metal core sound. Their specific flavor of the genre was nothing shy of vulgar, melodic, and electrifying.
The four piece band Sierra Pilot brought an authentic rock and roll sound all the way from Waterloo, Ontario. Being second of four, they were the pallet cleanser of the night with guitar driven melodies, high octane harmonies, and a somber light show. Currently on their second tour supporting Pop Evil, the bands genuine sound provided a brief but memorable calm ocean for what’s to come.
Co-headliner, Bad Wolves hit the stage next. With a name like that, you get exactly what you expect. Leader-of-the-pack level attitude, animalistic grooves, feral notions, and an untamed stage presence. Bad Wolves is no stranger to evolving either. New members, new sounds, but that wolf pack mentality remains unbeaten. Bad Wolves ended the set dedicating the last song to late songwriter Delores O’Riordan with their reinvention of the Cranberries’ original song Zombie.
Pop Evil was the headliner for this Saturday night show, and they did the job swimmingly. Coming on stage to their song “Eye of the Storm,” and then playing 2013 single, “Trenches,” brought both new and old fans together for one spectacular show. Their energy was relentless, feeding off the crowd’s excitement and turning the venue into a frenzy of movement and sound.
