Burning Witches -The Dark Tower Tour

Burning Witches is a Swiss based all-female heavy metal band. After seeing these women in action, you can understand why they are called Burning Witches; high energy and attitude, singing songs from their newest album, The Dark Tower, on their current tour of the same name. Opening up for them in El Paso at the Rockhouse Bar was Soren from El Paso, and, ironically, Burning Sunday from La Luz, NM. The evening was set for a powerhouse of rock, and the energy was high from the first beat.

Soren

A black, death, melodic, doom metal band from El Paso, TX, Soren is a power band climbing the ladder of local metal rock bands. They have great guitar riffs and some good lyrics. I hope to see these guys more.

Unfortunately, due to the heavy red lights, I was not able to capture many pictures, but will look for other performances in the future; they are worth a listen.

Burning Sunday

Burning Sunday from La Luz, New Mexico, brought their best to this concert. Opening for Burning Witches was a big deal for them. They came ready and willing to take on the challenge. I have covered Burning Sunday many times in the past. This fall, they added a new guitarist, Kalei Rankin, and he has stepped in, playing as if he had been in the band as long as front man Bart Man and bassist Nick Absher, both original members of the band. You also cannot forget the very animated and energetic drummer, Kid Stone

I have insider info that they are working on a new album, and at this point, it looks like it will be released in the spring of 2025. They are working on some new songs, a few of which they have performed this fall. They are bringing a new sound for 2025 and I am excited to hear more. Since I go to their studio often, I am sure I will get a taste of more new stuff soon.

Burning Witches

A five-piece band founded by Romana Kalkuhl from Switzerland, the heavy power metal band has toured around Europe, making a name for themselves before heading to the United Sates in 2022. They have been heavily influenced by bands like Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, and Judas Priest. They bring a special touch to the heavy metal rock scene, with fiery and in your face music that makes you want to jump and shout.

These women are very personable and not afraid to mingle in the crowd before and after their performance. They want to live the experience of the night. As they entered the stage, they commanded the night. With four of them lined up in front, dressed in black leather and all sporting long hair with fans blowing it back, they were there to perform.

Hard driving guitars and a killer bass all followed the lead of the heavy hitting drummer. The band consists of Romana Kalkuhl, rhythm guitarist, Jeanine Grob, bassist, Laura Guldemond, vocalist and Courtney Cox, lead guitarist. We cannot forget the small but powerful energy behind the drum set, Lala Frischknecht. All five bring a special dynamic to the band. They opened the show with “Unleash the Beast” off the Dark Tower album released in 2023 and “Wings of Steel” released in 2019. They also played a song called “Necronomicon,” released on the Dance with the Devil album. They wrapped up the night with their hit, “Burning Witches.”

Burning Witches was a great pleasure to capture and witness performing. I have followed them for years on Instagram and YouTube. They have used social media to build a great following. If you have never heard of them, you should definitely check them out.
