JUST FOR ONE NIGHT: MisterWives in Atlanta

“This is the last tour we’ll be doing for a while,” MisterWives wrote in an Instagram post from August of this year. The act, formed in 2012 in New York City, has toured full-speed-ahead for over ten years. The indie-pop act is a masterclass in forward-feeling pop anthems; with their latest album dipping weightily into rock influences. The Just For One Night Tour kicked off at the start of October in Texas, and has since made its way to Atlanta’s Buckhead Theatre.

The band walked on to a pitch-black stage, with eye-catching MisterWives-branded visuals flashing from center stage. The music poured into the venue, and there she was: adorned in a shimmering rockstar ensemble, vocalist Mandy Lee ran out with her signature bright smile and high energy. The band began the evening with the punchy track “Organized Chaos.

Lee is a performer, by all definitions of the word. She’s all glitter and tartan; armed with rich vocals that rival studio recordings and a stage presence that qualifies as an extreme sport. The band has built a cohesive brand for themselves over the years, selling out venues with plaid-clad audiences that scream each lyric. MisterWives‘ consistency has proved to be a tool in innovation and development of sound, instead of an oppositional force.

Bassist William Heir and lead guitarist Marc Campbell found a way to match Lee’s energy, creating a distinct on-stage chemistry from the front row. Saxophonist Michael Murphy brought a layer of instrumental nuance and a vital piece of the MisterWives show. Each piece of the ensemble is exceptionally talented, putting forth a performance that isn’t just up-to-par with studio recordings, but powerful in its own right.

There are few groups that have the years on the road, range in discography, and presence on the stage. Tracks like “decide to be happy” and “Vultures” are honest, creating a special relationship between the band and the max-capacity crowds they play to. Lee shared anecdotal introductions, memories from years of playing with the group, and even invited audience members to bring “this energy to the polls next month.”

All to say, MisterWives is a confirmed “Show Worth Seeing,” as they have been for years. You can secure tickets to the Just For One Night Tour here.
