Los Angeles, Oct. 11, 2024 – Jerry Cantrell’s highly anticipated new album, I Want Blood, is set to drop next Friday. Today, fans get one last preview with the release of the title track.
“There’s a confidence to this album,” Cantrell states. “I think it’s some of my best writing, playing, and certainly some of my best singing. There are large portions of this record where I felt like I was pushing the limits of my abilities, operating at the peak of my capacity.”
The four-minute title track kicks off with a sinister bassline from Duff McKagan, paired with a driving drumbeat from Mike Bordin. Cantrell’s intense vocals enter shortly after with the ominous line, “I Want Blood.” The album, like the song, was co-produced by Cantrell and Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins).
Ahead of today’s release, Cantrell has already shared two tracks from the album. The first, “Vilified,” was showcased in an in-depth interview with Rick Beato, where Cantrell discussed the song’s use of the talkbox, harking back to his work with Alice In Chains. The second track, “Afterglow,” has been praised by Revolver, who called it “anxiety-stirring” and “eerie,” while Metal Hammer simply dubbed it “brilliant.” The release of “Afterglow” was accompanied by a haunting video directed by Matt Mahurin, who described the visual as “a fever dream I was grateful to bring to life.”
I Want Blood was recorded at Barresi’s JHOC Studio in Pasadena, California, and features contributions from Duff McKagan, Mike Bordin, Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Greg Puciato (Better Lovers, ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Stolen Babies), and Lola Colette.
Cantrell has also teased an upcoming North American tour, with dates to be announced soon. He will perform a sold-out show at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA, on the eve of the album’s release. Following that, Cantrell will embark on a short South American tour, including a stop at Fauna Primavera.
