Ice Nine Kills’ newest project, “A Work of Art” ft. Shavo, became available for streaming on Oct. 11, 2024, accompanying the theater release for Terrifier 3. INK and Terrifier fans alike are all being weaved together into a clean web of horror and theatrical metal. In this article, we will be covering INK from the beginning to current, as well as information about the new Terrifier 3 film.
Ice Nine Kills, who is best known for their horror film related lyrics and theatrical performances, was established in 2002 by original members Spencer Charnas and Jeremy Schwartz in their hometown of Boston, Massachusetts. Even though the band was formed in 2002, they didn’t release their first studio album until four years later, titling it Last Chance to Make Amends. It included fan favorites such as “Murders and Acquisitions,” in reference to the 2000’s film American Psycho, and “Family Unites (Finding Emo).“
From 2006 to current 2024, Ice Nine Kills has gone on to release ten more horror film inspired albums, the most current one being a unique nine-bit rerelease of their most popular 2018 album, The Silver Scream. This particular album is completely void of vocals and focuses more on giving each song from the album a ‘video game’ style makeover, offering a new auditory experience to its listeners and fans alike. The Silver Scream album is what influenced their horror convention, Silver Scream Con, and includes popular horror tracks, such as “The American Nightmare” in reference to Nightmare on Elm Street, “The Jig Is Up” for the Saw series, and “Your Number’s Up” to show tribute to the well-loved Scream franchise.
Doing unique things like that over two decades has landed them in some fairly desirable opportunities, such as touring with bands like Metallica, Pantera, Motionless In White, and many more. Now, regardless of these monumental accomplishments, INK has, at times, been a victim of scrutiny from several communities on multiple occasions, resulting in words of slander and future banning from venues. One of those communities being the beloved Disney World.
After cancelling a show in April of 2019 at The House of Blues in Disney Springs, Disney made a statement that the band’s music and violent imagery was “too evil for children.” As a response to Disney’s statement, the band decided to launch a Disney-inspired line of merchandise called “Too Evil For Children” and, soon thereafter, sold-out a show at The Soundbar. They have continued gaining masses of support despite the backlash and have been labeled by Loudwire as “one of the most unique acts in metal.”
Ice Nine Kills, being known for their horror-meets-hard-rock vibe, made them a perfect choice when the producers of Terrifier 3 were looking for a unique touch in the movie. Their official collaboration with the Terrifier team was announced on September 15 at their third annual Silver Scream Con in Worcester, MA. The film’s world premier took place on September 19 in Austin, TX, at the Alamo Draft House, followed by the official “A Work of Art” music video directed by Jensen Noen.
Terrifier 3 murdered box office expectations, bringing in $18.3 million dollars and therefore bypassing the sales of Joker: Folie a’ Deux. “A Work of Art” also crushed the band’s previous record with 645,390 streams in one single day. As a dedication to their monumental achievement as a band and to aid in promotion of the film, INK dedicated their monthly Nightmare on the Ninth merch drop to Art the Clown, giving fans even more of a love for the character than before. Both Terrifier 2 and 3 are now being played as a double feature in select AMC and Marcus theaters. The official music video for “A Work of Art” can, for the first time, also be seen exclusively on the big screen following the final credits of Terrifier 3. You can find the Nightmare on the Ninth Art the Clown merch drop on their website, iceninekills.com, and purchase tickets for Terrifier 3 by visiting a theater near you.

We plan to see a lot more good things come out of the group in the near future and we hope more than anything that they keep it bloody.
