The Beaches can be blamed for giving Charlotte a good time!

The Beaches made a stop in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 30, as a part of their 2024 North American Tour. They graced the stage after a huge summer of playing festivals and other shows all over the U.K. and North America. Due to a high demand for tickets, the band was upgraded to a bigger venue, allowing more fans to get to experience their incredible show.

The show kicked off at 8:00pm with opener Charlie Houston. Houston started the night off with a stellar set, getting the crowd warmed up. She played a shorter set with songs like her latest releases “Slut for Excel” and “Pink Cheetah Print Slip.” She also threw in a fun cover of The Jonas Brothers’ song, “Year 3000,” hyping up the crowd even more. She kept the crowd engaged by bantering with fans and getting them involved in chants and singing along. With a very witty sense of humor and an addicting voice, Houston made me a fan within a few songs. The indie/alternative artist has a long career ahead of her and I can’t wait to see her on stage again. She will be opening for The Beaches for the rest of their October dates, so make sure you get to the venue early because you don’t want to miss her set!

The Beaches emerged from backstage to a roaring crowd. They started off their set with “Cigarette,” kicking the crowd into gear. There was barely a moment during their entire set that they weren’t moving. The crowd matched their energy song for song. The venue was so loud you could feel the music through the floors, which is the only way to enjoy a show in my opinion.

After a couple of songs, they took a moment to talk to the crowd about how much they love Charlotte, how it was such a beautiful city with beautiful people. The last time they performed a show in Charlotte was when they opened for The Aces back in 2021, and you could tell that they were excited to be back. They played some of their hit songs like, “Blame Brett,” “My Body ft Your Lips,” and “Edge Of The Earth.” They also played their newest song, “Jocelyn,” which was released last month.

While taking a pause in their set, they raised their Modelos and asked the crowd to sing happy birthday to Leandra’s mother, Mary, to send to her after the show. While their music consists of alternative/indie rock sounds that make you want to dance and party, they also have songs like “If A Tree Falls,” which they joked about being for “party girls” and “ragers,” but also for “sensitive women who want to play a sensitive song” before playing it. Towards the end of their set, they played my current favorite song of theirs, “Desdamona,” which was released in 2020. I wish I had found this band earlier because they are the type of cool girls that I wanted to be like when I was younger. I would have looked up to them as I do now.

The Toronto based band is composed of members Jordan Miller, Kylie Miller, Eliza Enman-McDaniel, and Leandra Earl. The group has been playing together for over a decade and show no signs of stopping anytime soon! I can’t wait to hear new stuff from them, as well as to see how they grow in the future!

Be sure to catch The Beaches if they’re coming to a city near you. This is a show you definitely don’t want to miss! I will be checking the next available date I can attend. Their show was such a blast that I left immediately wanting to see them again. In the meantime, I will be picking up their album Blame My Ex on vinyl to keep me amped up for the next time I will see them!
