Tab Benoit stops in the desert on his way to Telluride

This week Tab Benoit, four-time Grammy nominated artist, came to Alamogordo, NM, on his way to Telluride Blues and Brews Festival in Telluride, Colorado. Opening for him was David Jordan a New Orleans jazz artist. They both brought the bayou to the desert and the house was a rocking with some good old New Orleans sounds.

Dave Jordan opened the night with some down-home swamp music, with a flavor of Bourbon Street Jazz, he sang a select of songs off his latest album, “Keep Going” in 2022. The music brought a smile to your face and kept your foot tabbing as he stopped in between and told stories from the road.

For 30 years, Jordan has swept the nation with his rock, blues, jazz, funk jam, americana folk music taking you on a journey of the back roads of Louisiana. No just a singer, Jordan is a song writer and entertainer of the highest standard, bring you the classic sounds of his travels and upbringing while on the road. He travels from city to city, festival to festival bringing New Orlean swamp music alive.

Tab Benoit

Tab Benoit, BB King Entertainer of the Year award from the Blues Music awards. Then, in 2012 he won Contemporary Blues Male Artist, Contemporary Blues Album, and for the second time, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year from the Blues Music Awards. He is currently touring the states, “The Night Train Tour” promoting his newest album released in August 2024, “I Hear Thunder.”

Benoit has a rough gravelly voice that is so iconic to New Orleans Jazz artist like Otis Reading and Muddy Waters. The depth of his music comes straight from his soul, he puts every bit of energy he has to speak to his audiences through music. He expressed during his performance that, yes, his guitar has a cord that is plugged into an amplifier but the music comes through his body deep within his heart and his soul, he closes his eyes and thinks of nothing but the words coming from his mouth. As I reviewed the pictures to put in this article, he was right, he has his eyes closed while he is playing and you can see the music flowing through him.  By the time the performance was done you were in New Orleans on Bourbon Street, tapping your foot, even dancing and clapping, even after two encore songs the crowd was asking for more. Benoit was a pure magician in transforming the Flickinger Center into a Jazz Festival for one night.

Benoit next stop is going to be at the Telluride Blues and Brew Festival in Telluride, Colorado. The festival is a national ranged festival that Blues artist from around the world attend on their festival touring circuit. Benoit is a regular performer at the event and a fan favorite.
