Legendary county musicians Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylan Jennings, and Willie Nelson formed a traveling band called The Highwaymen, they travelled across the U.S. bring audiences young and old their style of country music. Between 1985 and 1995 the group produced three albums. All four of these artists had also established themselves as individual artists known worldwide.
Keeping the original artist music alive, The Highwaymen Show travels the world and brings outlaw country music to a new generation. They perform their music and tell stories of the legendary group. The four musicians walk, talk, and sing like the original artists. A great opportunity for people that missed the performances in the 80’s and 90’s.
Coming into Alamogordo, New Mexico, performing at the Flickinger Art Center, Willie Nelson couldn’t make the trip due to an illness, but the other three members of the band did a great job singing his songs. They started their performance with one of their # 1 song hits, “Highwayman.” Johnny Cash tells a story and tells us about his days at Folsom prison with his famous song, “Folsom Prison Blues.” Each artist performed their favorite songs, and they also performed an amazing version of “Seven Spanish Angels.”
The guitar that Waylon Jennings was playing was the same guitar that Waylon Jennings used to perform the theme song to “Dukes of Hazzard” As the band came to the end of the night they performed as a group “Ghost Riders in the Sky.” The audiences stood up and cheered at the end, as the band exited the stage, a man approached the stage and requested one of the members of the band to do an encore, which the band agreed they needed to do an encore. They stepped back on stage and finished the show with, “On the Road Again.”
